about

The four tracks here are not all brand new recordings, but bring together previously unreleased recordings from 2011 to 2013. Included are a song we recorded for a film, another that featured on TV, a live acoustic version of a song from our Molehills Out Of Mountains album and a studio version of a Big Star song we occasionally play live.

As with our other releases we've set the download price for this EP as "pay what you can". We've all got 'day jobs' and don't make a living out of our music. Sustainability as musicians is our goal. So long as we can continue to make the art we are passionate about, we are happy. It does, of course, cost time and money to make our music, but we wouldn't want you to decide against downloading our music because of a prohibitive price.

So, please download these recordings and contribute what you think it is worth to you, and what you can afford to pay. If you're skint, then have it for free, but if you can afford to give us some money for it, we would greatly appreciate it. Anything that you decide to pay us will go towards future band costs, such as further recordings, replacing equipment, and travel.

Track Name: Scarborough Fair
Lyrics:
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Remember me to one who lives there,
For once she was a true love of mine.

Tell her to make me a cambric shirt,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Without any seam or needlework,
Then she shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell her to wash it in yonder well,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Where never spring water or rain ever fell,
And she shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell her to dry it on yonder thorn,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Which never bore blossom since Adam was born,
Then she shall be a true lover of mine.

Now he has asked me questions three,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
I hope he'll answer as many for me
Before he shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell him to buy me an acre of land,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Betwixt the salt water and the sea sand,
Then he shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell him to plough it with a ram's horn,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
And sow it all over with one pepper corn,
And he shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell him to shear it with a sickle of leather,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
And bind it up with a peacock feather.
And he shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell him to thrash it on yonder wall,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme,
And never let one corn of it fall,
Then he shall be a true lover of mine.

When he has done and finished his work.
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme:
Oh, tell him to come and he'll have his shirt,
And he shall be a true lover of mine.
Track Name: Powerful Pill (live at St. Bartholomew's Church)
Lyrics:
Cruelty overwhelming
At the turning of the year
Hoping that the tide will turn
And luck falls somewhere near

Separately dreaming
That some things will be fair
Sleeping in the open air in the shadow of the stairs

And these roads we take as we come back home
Are the same roads we take all the year
And the love we made on those Saturdays
Is the same love now filled with tears

Saying that you’re lonely
Is that hardest thing to do
Denying it’s significant is the easiest thing to choose

We’re filling all the gaps in
We’re dosing up on gin
But this medicine’s a mile away from resuscitating me

And these friends we made to our sorry song
Are the same friends that offer us cheer
And the hope that stretched to those better days
Is the same hope now tinged with fear

But you mustn’t give up
Cos I need you now
You mustn’t give up
I don’t want you to know
Mustn’t give up
‘till we know for sure
You say you love me

We’re drinking all the coffee
Forgetting all the week
Friday night’s a keepsake
But then Sunday’s fucking bleak

And these bonds we made with our history
Are the same bonds that bind us still
And the kindness shown with it sympathy
Is the same kindness as a powerful pill

But you mustn’t give up
Cos I need you now
You mustn’t give up
I don’t want you to know
Mustn’t give up
‘till we know for sure
You say you love me
But I still don’t know
Track Name: Blue Poetry
Bowled over
It takes time to see
Cried over
A long while with me
Stood slowly
I tried hard to call
Tried hard to write
I’ve been worried sick
Up all night long

But you didn’t call
You wouldn’t call for nothing
Nothing

Well I’ve burned the thought of sympathy, the taste of it
This hollow sin, cracks of hope within blue poetry
But it’s too late to worry tonight

I’m a shadow of my former shade
A ride on this train made it vanish away
I came back to see
I didn’t come all this way just to knock on your door
Don’t leave me alone please pick up the phone
Don’t leave me alone please pick up the phone

But you didn’t hear
You didn’t hear for hours
And I waited all night

Well I’ve burned the thought of sympathy, the taste of it
This hollow sin, cracks of hope within blue poetry

Well I’ve burned the thought of sympathy, the sweet taste of it
This hollow sin, cracks of hope within
I’m terrified

But it’s too late to worry
It’s too late to care
It’s too late to wish for what we can’t have
